The deadly dangers of keyless ignition
(WGN) -- Could you be carrying a silent killer and not even know it?
Keyless ignition is at least an option on most cars today. This feature is highly rated by drivers who just need convenience in their everyday. But it does not come without risk. Anyone with one needs to know what they're doing. It could be a matter of life and death.
Unlocking the car is not the real problem for keyless ignition users over the years. It's shutting the engine off. That same keyless ignition that allows you to start the car with the push of a button instead of a key is linked to the deaths of at least a dozen people since 2009, including a couple from Highland Park.
Was it operator error? Maybe lack of federal regulation.
WGN's Julie Unruh has a closer look at the dangers linked to keyless ignitions.
