Image of Asia: Preparing for All Saint's Day

Philippines All Saints Day

In this photo by Bullit Marquez, an informal settler at a public cemetery in the Philippines cleans the epitaph on a tomb before All Saint's Day. Roman Catholics and other Christians pay respects to the dead each Nov. 1 with prayers and visits to cemeteries and memorial parks. The cemetery in Pasay city south of Manila is home to more than 100 informal settler families who have added makeshift shelters to shield themselves from the heat and rain.
