"Dancing With the Stars" celebrated Halloween early on Monday night, but the shocking elimination will be giving countless fans nightmares.

The contestants on the ABC dance contest pulled out all the stops with their elaborate costumes, with former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter bringing Frankenstein to life for an Argentine tango, YouTube star Hayes Grier sprouting facial hair to play Teen Wolf, and Tamar Braxton getting her teeth into The Doors' "People Are Strange" from the "Lost Boys" soundtrack.

However, landing in the bottom three after their horror-themed performances were Grier, Braxton and Alexa PenaVega.

While the judges praised Grier's development, with Julianne Hough telling him there was "a maturity and roundedness ... to me tonight, you were a leading man," it wasn't enough to overcome the last week's poor performance and he was sent packing along with partner, Emma Slater.

"You go out on a night when you excelled," host Tom Bergeron told the young contestant, who described the show "as a life-changing event."

Fans on Twitter didn't take the news as well, with many saying they were going to quit watching Season 21 now that Hayes was gone, and other asking why Braxton didn't get the boot.

Earlier in the night, Bindi Irwin also picked a "Lost Boys" song, this time it was the main theme, "Cry Little Sister" by Gerard McMann.

"Bindi needs to be an evil queen vampiress," her partner Derek Hough said. "Don't be afraid to be scary."

His advice to the sweet Australian on how to tap into her dark side worked, as judge Bruno Tonioli told the pair "it was spellbinding dance magic."
