Hero brother dies rescuing sibling after 'perfect day' together

When a man visited his brother to see a metal concert, the two spent a "perfect day" together before the older brother died rescuing his younger sibling from a London Underground track.

Nicholas Mann, 34, had just seen Shrewsbury Town FC and a metal gig with his brother, Robert, 32, in March when Robert fell onto the tracks at Old street Station. Nicholas laid down on the platform and attempted to help his younger brother. That's when both brothers were struck by a southbound Northern Line train. Train driver Paul Johnson told the court:

"I went round the corner approaching the platform and I saw a male stumbling and fall onto the track just in front of me. I Immediately pushed the emergency brake. When he fell, another gentleman was trying to pull him out. The train was braking when it hit both of them. The gentleman had his back to me standing. The other gentleman was trying to pull him out. It looked definitely like an accident."

Unfortunately, Nicholas, who lived with his wife Jennifer Kavanagh in Wimbledon, suffered a "massive head injury" that led to his death. He reportedly received first aid from off-duty paramedics and a doctor before being rushed to Royal London Hospital. In a written statement issued to the court, Pauline Mann, Nicholas' and Robert's mother, said:

"Nick and his brother had been close as children and that relationship followed into adulthood - They texted each other many times a day and the last day of Nick's life they spent together. I will always miss my darling son. It was the perfect day. It involved football, a gig, and chips and beer."


The young man reportedly spent his last moments "jumping and celebrating" with his brother. Before the accident, he appeared "very cheerful" by witnesses after spending the perfect day with his beloved sibling.
