Student, 14, dies mysteriously after playing basketball at school
ELIZABETH, N.J. (WPIX) — 14-year-old Nixon Geraldo was playing a pick-up game of basketball with friends inside Elizabeth School No. 27 on Wednesday night, when he complained about his head, collapsed and died.
"He simply said he felt dizzy, he walked over and all they heard was a noise," said Chris Shavannes, Principal of The Patrick School and head boys varsity basketball coach.

Geraldo was in 8th grade at The Patrick School, a private school a couple doors down from School 27. Nixon's mother was nearby when he collapsed, attending parent-teacher conferences.
Shavannes said he had just met with Geraldo and his mother before he died.
"My last visual of Nixon was a big smile on his face. And his mom and I were very happy and laughing," he said.
Classes at The Patrick School have been cancelled for the past two days, so teachers and students could meet with counselors. The school is very small, with approximately 110 students spanning 6th through 12th grade.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine Geraldo's cause of death. The results will be released to the family, but will otherwise be kept confidential.
A viewing is planned for Sunday at Camp of Jehovah Christian Church in Elizabeth.
