Band members facing suspension for 'racist' gift basket

Band members at Atascocita High School in Humble, Texas are facing suspension after giving a "racist" gift basket to band members of Summer Creek High School.

It's a tradition for the members to exchange gifts on the field before varsity football games to promote good sportsmanship...but this particular gift has people up in arms.



Friday's gift, presented by seven members of the Atascocita band to the rival team's band, was a decorated bucket for Halloween, with candy, small watermelon, coconut, canned pineapple and watermelon gum inside.

After an investigation, school administrators deemed the gift "inappropriate and lacked good sportsmanship." As reported by local ABC affiliate KTRK, the school district stated, "Atascocita High School will not tolerate racial insensitivity."

However, not everyone agrees with this punishment. On Twitter, most comments criticize the students' suspensions:
