People share horror stories about their awful in-laws

There's nothing more nerve-wracking than meeting a new beau's parents. Everyone wants their potential in-laws to like them, so they make sure to show off their most charming dispositions and to agree with everything the parents say. As soon as "I do" is uttered by both parties at the alter, though, the in-law situation becomes much more real. Many people find themselves disputing or conflicting with their in-laws, sometimes at the cost of their own relationships and families. Several people took to Whisper, the popular app that provides an anonymous platform for people to share their most honest thoughts, to share why their in-laws are the absolute worst.

Sometimes in-laws need a bit of a reality check:
My mother-in-law just introduced me as her "son's friend" even though he and I have been married for 3 years. What?

Some in-laws aren't quite aware of certain boundaries:
My father in law posted 'Sexy!' on my latest profile picture. Sometimes he gives me the creeps.

And some are just full-on ruthless:
Today, my mother in law "accidentally" tried to run me over

They can certainly make life a bit more difficult:
My mother in law CRIED to my husband because she didn't like the gold earrings we got her for mothers day.... I hate her.

While some aren't supportive enough, others can be quite overbearing:
My father-in-law has to be involved in everything we do. I can never have anything to do with only my husband.

Conflict with in-laws can make for some uncomfortable family dinners:
My father-in-law is a misogynistic caveman. He hates my guts and the feeling is mutal.

Some in-laws have fairly outdated views on marriage:
My mother-in-law always makes me mad. But this time she said I don't take care of my husband enough because I don't act like a maid to him. I'm a WIFE. not a MAID.

And some are just plain inappropriate:
During a family visit, I stumbled upon my father-in-law in my kitchen using my spaghetti server to scratch his bare back.

Parenting can be difficult with stubborn in-laws around:
My mother-in-law undermines me at every chance and is making it near impossible for me to raise my children.

Maintaining family ties is important despite the frustrations, though:
I can't stand my father in law but I have to give into everything just so things won't go sour.

Nothing's more frustrating than feeling alone in an in-law dispute:
Sometimes I really dislike my mother-in-law. It's like my husband and I have no privacy at all. So frustrating and I don't know how to talk to him about this cuz he is a Mommas boy

Passive-aggressive in-laws can be unnerving:
My mother-in-law is "cleaning" my house. I've told her she doesn't have to and she just continues as I sit and cringe at her touching all my stuff.

You can't have your cake and eat it too:
My mother in law tries to micromanage my life and then wonders why we don't have a good relationship. Ugh!
