Denzel Washington is headed to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, but it's not what you think!

The two-time Oscar winner will step behind the camera to direct the ninth episode of Grey's Anatomy's 12th season, ET has learned.

Washington -- who likely linked up with Shonda Rhimes medical drama through longtime friend Debbie Allen, who executive produces, directs, and stars on show -- will make his small-screen directing debut with the episode, set to air during November sweeps.

The 60-year-old actor has previously directed two feature films: 2002's Antwone Fisher and 2007's The Great Debaters.
