Teachers Praised For Walking Students Home From School

A group of Memphis, Tennessee elementary school teachers literally go the extra mile for their students every day. After a photo of teacher Carl Schneider walking his students home from school one day surfaced on social media and went viral, the dedicated educators are getting the credit they deserve.

Schneider is a part of a group of five teachers at Whitney Achievement who volunteer to walk about 200 students home from school every day. Many of the students live in apartments about a quarter-mile away from the school. The program enables students to bond with their teachers while ensuring that they get home safely. Tabitha Judy Jones, who captured the viral image, said:

This made my heart glad to witness his compassion toward the children ... it takes a village." type="quote" author="Tabitha Judy Jones" authordesc="" isquoteoftheday=%

Schneider, who has participated in the walking program for the three years that he's been teaching at the school, said that he looks forward to the walks every day. He said:

I'm really glad that people know the teachers in this community are really invested in the community." type="quote" author="Carl Schneider" authordesc="" isquoteoftheday=%

Thanks to all the amazing teachers out there who go above and beyond to help their students.
