World's most powerful car unveiled
The project's creators proclaim it to be "the world's fastest and most advanced racing car."
With designs on blowing past the world land-speed record—at over 1,000 miles per hour—the Bloodhound SSC just might be exactly that.
And it is being shown publicly for the first time.
The Bloodhound Expo offers onlookers the chance to see the over 44-foot-long car.
It's fed and propelled by a serious combination of jet, rocket and V8 engines produced by Rolls Royce, Nammo and Jaguar, respectively.
But in addition to Herculean hybrid muscle, designers have put a premium on safety as well, outfitting the supersonic vehicle with multiple systems of redundancy.
Supported in part by the UK government, eight years of R&D are close to bearing blue-and-orange supersonic fruit.
