Students Crown 7-Year-Old Girl Battling Brain Cancer Homecoming Queen

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. – A seven-year-old girl fighting brain cancer was celebrated as an honorary homecoming queen on Friday night. Jordan Overcast was crowned before Harrisonville High School's homecoming game.

Students at the school heard about her dream to meet Taylor Swift next week at her concerts in Kansas City, and began sharing the social media campaign: #TaylorMeetJordan.

They wanted Jordan to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience and decided they wanted to do that by honoring her Friday night. It was a moving moment that brought her family, and many fans, to tears.

"It's overwhelming. Little girls don't get to experience this until they get much older. And then sometimes they don't even get to do that. She gets to experience something that will mean something for a long time and to all of us. Memories were made tonight," Jordan's grandmother Donna Overcast said.

Memories that her family cherish forever and a night this homecoming queen will not soon forget.

Severe weather causes a stir

While the night was mostly filled with highlights on and off the field, severe weather in the area Friday night caused a bit of commotion. Tornado sirens went off several times for more than an hour during the game, prompting an evacuation of the field and stands until the weather cleared.

Everyone in attendance took shelter in classrooms and bathrooms.

"It was a little worrying, I mean, normally whenever you hear those sirens, you're not in a school, or at a football game either, but like I said, everyone was kind of in a fun environment and keeping their spirits up throughout the school," senior Dylan Johnson said.

The 'all-clear' was eventually given, and Harrisonville won its homecoming game 31-7 over Excelsior Springs.
