Baby allegedly suffocates and dies while sleeping in between parents on small bed

Updated

On July 9, a couple slept on a small twin-sized bed with their 1-month-old baby in between them. When the parents woke up, they found the baby wedged between the mattress and a couch that was pressed against the head of the bed. The baby was "not breathing" and "cold to the touch."

Maria Lamb, 28, and Adam Love, 33, of Hot Springs, Ark. were arrested for negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a minor on Tuesday.

After the police were called to the scene at 7:40 AM on July 10, Lamb was sitting on the front porch holding her dead baby girl. The couple has three other children ages 4, 2 and 1. Police had Love and Lamb perform urinalysis tests at the scene to check for illegal narcotics and both parents were tested positive for benzodiazepines, opiates, oxycodone and THC.

On July 15, the couple's three children were taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital for hair follicle tests. Two of the three children's hairs tested positive for marijuana. DHS has taken custody of the three children, whose parents are in custody with a bond set in the amount of $50,000.
