Debra Messing has spent most of the summer in New York City filming the second season of her hit TV show "Mysteries of Laura," but the stunning actress revealed the one job most important to her: being a mom.

"It's hard being single mom or dad," the 47-year-old single mom confessed to AOL in an exclusive interview.

It's no surprise that Messing can totally relate to her TV character – a brilliant NYPD detective juggling crime and her devilish twin boys as a single parent.

Between long days of filming and trying to squeeze in as much time as she can with her 11-year-old son Roman, the former "Will & Grace" star revealed trying to do it all can sometimes get overwhelming.

"It really is an hour to hour thing." Messing shared. "One hour you feel really good balancing being both an employee and a mom and then the next hour it doesn't turn out the way you thought it would."

But the Emmy-winning actress has the perfect cure-all for all the chaos thrown her way.

"For me, a bath at the end of the day is always a panacea."

Messing's unpredictable schedule is about to get even more hectic with the start of another school year, but it's clear that she's all about looking at the silver lining of any situation. The actress gladly dished on the one back-to-school activity she's most excited about.

"I'm obsessed with Staples, Office Max and anything that has to do with school supplies," Messing gushed. "I get giddy. That's my candy shop."

And she wasn't shy in revealing the one aisle you'll most likely find her camping out at.

"The pen aisle alone for me – I could just be there for at least half an hour," Messing happily said while talking about her latest partnership with Zyrtec. Messing is also an allergy sufferer, so Zyrtec is a must for back-to-school season.

Even with the demands of numerous projects on the horizon, including a children's film set to come out next summer, Messing makes sure to enjoy some laughs along the way – especially with her "Mysteries" co-star Max Jenkins.

"We are often singing Broadway show tunes whenever we get together. I think Max and I are the ones who get the silliest."

Are the bright lights of the Broadway stage in Messing's future? We wouldn't put it past this superwoman.
