Americans reveal negative experiences with Obamacare

Updated

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010 and upheld by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012. The act was implemented in an effort to give more American citizens the ability to acquire affordable healthcare of good quality. Obama also hoped to reduce the growth in United States healthcare spending with Obamacare.

While the intentions behind Obamacare are positive and the act has helped many people in need of more affordable healthcare, others are unhappy with the results of the act. Obamacare is more expensive than many anticipated, and there are strict regulations that may inhibit people who can't afford healthcare through other means from accessing Obamacare.

Therefore, several unhappy Obamacare recipients took to Whisper, the popular app that provides an anonymous platform for people to share their most honest thoughts, to share their negative experiences with Obamacare.

The insurance price decrease isn't significant enough for many people.

Before Obamacare, insurance was $271/mo. I could not afford it. After Obamacare, insurance is $270/mo Still can't afford it and now being fined for not being able to.

For those who live paycheck to paycheck, Obamacare is proving to be unrealistic.

I make $2300 a month and with that I have enough to pay bills and feed my family. But with Obamacare I'm losing $2500 a year on insurance I can't afford. I don't know what to do.

It may cause a lack of mobility within certain occupations.

Thank you Obama Care... for forcing me to stay at a job I hate just so I don't get fined for not having health insurance! Free country indeed...

Some feel that it's simply too expensive.

I spend more on Obamacare than on my car payment, car insurance, and gas combined. Basically I can't afford my life thanks to Obama.

For others, it gets in the way of educational opportunities.

If I get obamacare I won't be able to afford college this semester

It may not leave much room for additional necessary expenses.

Today I found out I can either afford the therapy my son needs or my mortgage. Thanks, Obamacare.

People do not like the paycheck cuts.

I get paid $8 an hour. But thanks to Obama Care I'm actually getting paid $6 an hour due to the 25% tax deducts. Thanks, Obama!

Some people's medical expenses have increased since the implementation of Obamacare.

I work in a pharmacy and witness first hand how destructive Obamacare is. It's sickening to see people who used to be able to buy their meds at reasonable prices now unable to afford them.

The Obamacare regulations may not take certain situations into consideration.

I got fined for not having healthcare last year even though I was unemployed for six months and on unemployment for three of those six.

Some say a lack of insurance is cheaper than Obamacare when it comes to health expenses.

My uninsured ER visit was cheaper than my Obamacare covered procedure. There's something seriously wrong here.

Some simply can't afford it and go without any healthcare.

I'm having trouble with anxiety again. I don't have health insurance. I can't afford obamacare. I don't know what to do.

There's a demographic unaccounted for when it comes to qualifying for Obamacare.

I have an illness I can't treat because I'm too poor for Obamacare and too rich for welfare.

Even the most responsible professionals may have taken a hard hit.

I used to work plenty of hours to pay my bills and put away $120 a month in savings. When the Obamacare mandates hit, I could no longer afford to eat or pay rent.

People with serious health problems fear they can't be helped because they can't afford Obamacare

I think I might have something medically wrong with me but I have no health insurance because my job dropped their coverage and I can't afford obamacare.
