Sherri Dickson, a 51-year-old woman living with multiple sclerosis and autoimmune disease in North Dakota. Dickson's disease is in remission, and while she has three children of her own, she also agreed to carry her daughter, Mandy Stephens', child.
Mandy and her husband had been struggling with fertility for years, and Mandy even faced a horrible situation of going into early labor and losing the child which the couple had already named Theo.
Dickson talked about how hard it was to see her daughter struggle with this, especially after Mandy's doctor told her that a premature birth could occur again.
After hearing this news, Dickson stepped up. She recalls this, saying, "I decided that if they needed somebody to carry their child, I would volunteer." She found out that she was pregnant after attempting a couple of in vitro processes last fall.
"The delivery at 51 was way harder than the delivery at 33 with my last baby," Dickson recalls, but now Mandy and her husband have a healthy baby.
