Man accidentally shoots and kills himself after taking a selfie with a gun

A 19-year-old man named Deleon Alonso Smith accidentally shot and killed himself while taking a selfie with a gun in southwest Houston.

Investigators and police say that Smith was taking selfies with the fun at his apartment around 1:45 p.m., right before the gun went off.

Smith's family is heartbroken. Daisha Jones, the victim's sister, is in shock. She said, "It's just crazy how somebody could be here one minute, and in seconds, they're gone." His uncle, Eric Douglas, says that this grief is the "worst feeling" in his life.

Smith had two young children, and he was planning to start college today.
