5 places to avoid this Labor Day

Summer's almost over and with gas prices down and wages up a busy Labor Day weekend is inevitable. AAA Travel predicts we'll see the highest volume for the weekend since 2008 with 35.5 million Americans expected to hit the road over the holiday.

So, where you go and how you get there can make or break the last hurrah of summer. Here's our HuffPost News unofficial, totally subjective list of Five Places to Avoid This Labor Day Weekend!

1. VENICE BEACH
This popular piece of California coastline is naturally crowded...like on a Wednesday at noon...in December...it's still packed! Multiply that typical crowd by ten and you're caught in the middle of one of the WORST spots to visit on a summer holiday weekend.

2. BRIDGEPORT, CT
The coastal Connecticut town is a short commute for New Yorkers. Inrix, a traffic information company, calls Bridgeport one of the most congested cities in America.
Drivers can look forward to gridlock on Rt. 1 while getting texts from their friends at the beach.

3. LAS VEGAS, NV
Aside from the holiday hotel rates and packed bars, it's too hot to be anywhere other than the pool and the pool is packed with frat boys and their baes, international celebrity DJ's, and sometimes, something else. A few years back some of the most popular pools on the Vegas strip tested positive for high levels of urine and bacteria. Bacteria known to cause urinary track infections and skin infections.

4. SEATTLE, WA
Seattle is great but this weekend is NOT the time to go - thousands flock to the Northwestern city for the annual three-day Music & Arts Festival - Bumbershoot. The event features more than 2,500 bands with 50,000 visitors per DAY. Hotels, restaurants, and streets fill up so just take our word for it...unless you already have a room, just avoid it.

5. ANY BEACH IN THE CAROLINAS
We try not to sensationalize news stories, but after 11 attacks in a matter of months, double the average for that area, it's safe to say the Carolina waters are pretty darn shark infested this summer. Experts say drought conditions reduce the amount of freshwater making it to the sea, which creates an environment along the shore where higher salt levels attract more fish and sharks.

So if you don't have to labor on Labor Day, avoid the crowds and enjoy your long weekend.
