Lucy Liu tackles directing in the newest episode of 'Graceland'

Get ready Lucy Liu fans, if you missed the sexy actress on the hit drama "Elementary" don't worry! She is back -- but this time in the director's chair.

The former "Charlie's Angel" star directed an episode of "Graceland," which airs tonight 10/9c on the USA Network and told AOL.com how directing not only challenged her, but taught her a lot.

"It was wonderful because it was really challenging in the way it is for any director that goes onto a different set and different location and throws themselves in there and then you go headfirst into it," she says. "This was the full experience, the full prep that I normally don't have, so that was just wonderful."

Not only was Liu incredibly excited to be tapped to direct the gripping drama with a new set of actors and crew, but she says it was a completely different experience from starring and directing in "Elementary."

"The learning curve in directing, to me is not gradual," she says. "So every time you work on another project you learn so much more than you knew before, it's not just a slight change," she dished. "It's not a 10 to 11 [jump] but from 10 to 80."

Although she learns something new each time, she believes the ultimate key to being a great director is communication -- not just with your crew, but the entire production team.

And Liu is not one to stray away from taking her own advice. The actress said she takes what she knows as an actor and applies it to everything she does whether it be directing, acting, or her newest venture, her adorable pet line that was inspired by the lack of quality she and a friend found in pet toys.

Even though she still loves acting, Liu says she sees directing as a new space for her in her career. "I love comedies and love that genre specifically," she says. "But that is a very different thing, so I'd probably have to learn a little bit more about it before going headlong into it."

One thing is for sure, we are incredibly excited to see what Liu directs next!
