Much like the rest of academia, technology has altered the way that Americans go back-to-school shopping.

Baynote asked 1,000 consumers about their shopping habits in preparation for the 2014-15 academic year and released the findings.

Perhaps the most surprising statistic is 70 percent of families still shop in person for their supplies. However, as the age of the student increased, so did the interest in online shopping.

Amazon was the biggest influencer for online purchases, but paper catalogs came in a close second for inspiring both online and brick-and-mortar shoppers, proving that some back-to-school traditions can't be broken.
