Views from the cockpit of a Boeing 737-800

Updated

The Wright brothers created and flew the first controlled, successful airplane in 1903, and since then air travel has become one of the most popular ways to cross long distances. Very few people, however, get to see the world from the front of a plane -- sunsets and mountains and oceans as far as the eye can see, without a wing or engine obstructing the view. Only after many years of school and training are trustworthy pilots able to get behind the controls of a commercial airplane and experience the incredible views often unseen by the rest of the world.

Click through the slideshow above to see South Africa from the position of captain Lourens Sadler and his co-pilot, first officer Mohau Tlhapuletsa, on their recent flight from Cape Town to Lanseria and back in a Boeing 737-800.
