Dying dog serves as owner's ring-bearer in emotional wedding ceremony

Updated

Five years ago, Cassidy Williams says she "tricked" her parents into adopting a puppy, which she named "Dood." She knew her family would eventually fall in love ... and of course, they did.

Williams, now 29, has been in bridal bliss with her August wedding fast approaching. However, this bliss was slightly rattled by some devastating news when Dood was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. Williams told CNN, "he was always a happy, sweet and healthy dog."

Williams and her fiance, Matthijs, knew Dood had to be included in their wedding, no question about it. Williams's dad canceled his flight from Utah and Oregon, and made the 14-hour drive with Dood in tow. The terminally ill golden retriever served as the couple's ring-bearer in their wedding ceremony, which made Williams's special day that much more meaningful.

What's even sweeter? Dood got to experience the ocean for the first time. Cassidy and her family watched Dood play in the water, a memory they will never forget.
