Billboard 200 chart moves: Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' album tops 3 million sold
On the latest Billboard 200 chart (dated Aug. 29), Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights album opened at No. 1 with 345,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 13. Behind him was the also-arriving Dr. Dre, who saw his Compton set launch at No. 2 with 295,000 units.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week's most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Let's take a closer look at some of the action on the chart:
— Katy Perry, Teenage Dream - No. 185 — The pop diva's second Capitol Records album, Teenage Dream, floats past the 3 million U.S. sales mark, according to Nielsen Music. The former No. 1 album sold another 1,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 13, bringing its overall total to just over 3 million sold. The set was released in 2010, debuted atop the chart, and has spent 224 weeks (and counting) on the list. It spawned five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, equaling the record set by Michael Jackson's Bad for the most No. 1 Hot 100 hits from one album.
Perry's debut for Capitol, One of the Boys, has sold 1.69 million since its release in 2008. Her most recent set, 2013's Prism, has moved 1.65 million.

— Michael Ray, Michael Ray - No. 21 — A week after newcomer Michael Ray crowned the Country Airplay chart with his debut hit "Kiss You In the Morning," the singer takes a bow on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums with his debut self-titled album. The set starts at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 with 15,000 units earned in the week ending Aug. 13. Over on the Top Country Albums chart, it enters at No. 4 with 11,000 sold in pure album sales.
The 27-year-old was previously lauded as an act to watch in Billboard's Tomorrow's Hits feature back in April, just as "Kiss You In the Morning" was taking off at country radio. "Kiss" also climbed to No. 10 on Hot Country Songs and No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.
— Trey Songz, Trigga - No. 22 — Trey Songz's Trigga album zooms 78-22 thanks to a 99-cent sales price in the Google Play store. The set's album sales grew to 9,000 for the week (up 443 percent) while its overall unit total vaulted to 15,000 (up 100 percent).
'Straight Outta Compton' Set to Rule Box Office for Second Weekend
— N.W.A, Straight Outta Compton - No. 30 — Powered by the hit movie of the same name, the rap group's album rises to a new chart peak, flying 97-30 with a 92 percent rise in overall units (to 12,000 for the week). The set originally peaked at No. 37 (for three nonconsecutive weeks) in 1989.
— Michael Jackson, Thriller - No. 68 — Michael Jackson's classic No. 1 album returns to the list after a three-month absence, thanks to sale pricing and promotion in the iTunes Store (8,000 overall units, up 367 percent; 5,000 in pure album sales; up 239 percent). This is Thriller's highest rank since the Feb. 16, 2013-dated chart when it was No. 61.
— Various Artists, Now That's What I Call New Wave 80s - No. 106 — This is the 107th charting Now That's What I Call Music album in the franchise's history (it bows with 6,000 units). It's one of two new Now albums to debut on the list this week. Up at No. 3 is the new Now 55 compilation (76,000 units).
