An inside look at child marriage in Bangladesh

Getting married before the age of 18 is a common part of life for girls living in Bangladesh. Currently, the country has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world.

An estimated 29 percent of girls will marry before the age of 15 and 65 percent before the age of 18, according to the Human Rights Watch.

While these unions are recognized as a part of Bangladeshi tradition, they come with significant risks for the young brides, like dropping out of school, death during childbirth and spousal abuse.
