LODI, Calif. (KTXL) -- A 12-year-old Lodi boy was hit by a bullet while inside his house. When gunshots rang out Thursday on the 1700 block of South Hutchins Street, Elijah Hill was caught in the crossfire.

Elijah's friend, and neighbor, recounts the experience: "I heard the shooting and I look outside and see a bunch of people running inside," said Axel Rodriguez.

The victim's sister, Kaitlynn Taylor, said a car pulled up to entrance of the Southwind Apartment complex around 6:00 p.m. There was yelling and her mom told her siblings to go inside, but even that didn't protect Elijah, who lives at another apartment complex next door.

"He was inside the house and it just went through the air conditioner and got him," said Taylor.

His abdomen was grazed by a bullet. The Lodi Police Department believes Elijah wasn't the target, but investigators don't know if shooting is gang related. They are not even sure how many people were in the car, but they believe the car involved is an older silver pickup truck.
