On Saturday, August 15, 2015, Tamara Dominguez was hit by a car in a church parking lot in Kansas City, Missouri. The car hit her and ran over her body at least two or three times, resulting in Dominguez's death from injuries on Saturday night.

The attackers have yet to be identified and it's not yet clear who she was with that evening. What is clear though is that this is not a one-time incident. This year, at least 12 other transgender women have been murdered in the U.S. alone.

While families of many of these victims classify these horrible incidents as hate crimes, police haven't identified Dominguez's death as such. Transgender celebrity Laverne Cox paid tribute to the late transgender women on her Instagram, honoring her life and asking people to raise funds.
