Short woman stabbed her boyfriend with a knife for making fun of her height

Updated

Any short woman knows how frustrating it is to feel belittled or disadvantaged because of her height. Maria Clark, 40, stands under 5 feet tall and apparently couldn't handle another height-related dig from her towering boyfriend, Matthew Parvin. The woman stabbed her boyfriend with a knife for calling her a midget.

Clark reportedly left her boyfriend with a puncture wound in his shoulder after she lunged at him with a knife. The Portsmouth native reportedly told her boyfriend that he "better get rid of the knife" before a neighbor called an ambulance.

Surprisingly, the couple stayed together. Parvin reportedly lied in the January 20 hearing and told police that he was attacked by a stranger on his way home from the shops. The two walked out of court holding hands that day.

However, when the pair broke up on May 16, Parvin called the police to confess the truth. Clark was then arrested.

When the pair inevitably got back together, Clark admitted to the assault. In Portsmouth Crown Court, Clark's lawyer Bridget O'Hagan suggested that Parvin made "derogatory comments about her being a dog after references to her height." O'Hagan said:

"She finds that people who call her a midget and dwarf, it really does upset her."

Clark received a 36-week jail term, is suspended for two years with 18 months supervision and must attend 12 sessions of a women's group.
