Piece Of Berlin Wall Arrives In Washington, DC

A sizable piece of the Berlin Wall arrived in Washington DC on August 13, the 54th anniversary of the border closure between East and West Berlin.

Unveiled in front of the State Department, the segment of the Wall will be installed in the U.S. Diplomacy Center, a forthcoming museum on American diplomacy.

This portion of the Berlin Wall was successfully obtained through the work of the Atlantic Council who struck an agreement with a German company.

The segment awaiting its installation is of special importance as it bears the signatures of the many politicians involved in uniting Berlin. The list includes former leader of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, and current German Chancellor Angela Merkel, among others.

The interactive U.S. Diplomacy Center is intended to educate visitors about the history of U.S. diplomacy and its overall impact.
