Man postpones gender transition to physically carry his baby

AJ Kearns, a man who lives in Melbourne, Australia, has two children with his former partner Zu White, and each parents gave birth to one of the children.

After White experienced birth complications with their son, Kearns -- a transgender man -- decided to postpone his physical gender transition and carry the couple's next child.

The parents share that they have been very honest with their children, making their roots and family dynamics very clear.

White told ABC's Australian Story that she tells her kids:

Kearns initially identified as gay, and he underwent religious conversion therapy for several years before realizing that he was a man.

While postponing the gender reassignment wasn't easy, Kearns recalls the moment of the birth as being "beautiful."
