Darren Wilson Talks About New Life A Year After Michael Brown

Darren Wilson is opening up about his life in a lengthy interview with The New Yorker magazine's Jake Halpern one year after the fatal confrontation with 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Over the last year, Wilson says he's had to stay out of the spotlight. Even his wife — who checked into a hospital anonymously before giving birth in March.

After Brown's death, Wilson says couple even received numerous threats to their unborn child.

The 29-year-old says finding work is hard — saying he was forced quit his job at a St. Louis boot store stocking inventory after just two weeks because reporters wouldn't stop calling the shop.

He's also careful when leaving the house — which is monitored heavily by security cameras. Only a few close friends know his new address. He was able to move and take care of a few legal expenses after supporters raised half a million dollars.

Wilson says he hasn't read the scathing Department of Justice report that accused Ferguson police of discrimination.

As for the topic of Michael Brown — Wilson told Halpern he hadn't thought much about who the teen was, saying, "Do I think about who he was as a person? Not really, because it doesn't matter at this point. Do I think he had the best upbringing? No. Not at all."

When asked if he thought Brown was a "bad guy," Wilson responded, "I only knew him for those forty-five seconds in which he was trying to kill me, so I don't know."
