Lexi Shymanski, a 5-year-old girl in British Columbia, proved you're never too young to be a hero.

Her mother, Angela Shymanski, said she passed out at the wheel while driving her daughter Lexi and 10-week-old son Peter home.

The SUV veered off the road and went down a 40-foot embankment. Shymanski broke her back and was knocked unconscious. Infant Peter had bleeding on the brain, Metro News reports.

Not only was Lexi awake through the whole ordeal, but she managed to get out of her five-point harness car seat and climb barefoot up the embankment.

Fortunately, the first driver Lexi flagged was a paramedic. Once they arrived on the scene, firefighters and medics had to use ropes to get up and down the embankment the young girl had scaled without shoes.

Officials say her mother and brother could have died if Lexi hadn't taken action. The family is now recovering at home after the ordeal.
