The Fastest Supercomputer: Just What the President Ordered

The U.S. government is aiming to build the fastest supercomputer in the world by 2025.

Currently the record is held by China, which has been exploring extreme processing speed technology for years.

Obama recently issued the executive order to start the research and production that will lead us to detain the record in approximately one decade down the road.

The President formed the National Strategic Computing Initiative (NSCI), which will lead the way to create a computer that is 20 times more powerful than its Chinese counterpart.

The new machine will be able to crunch one quintillion calculation per second (exaflop). This will provide the country with the ability to execute more elaborate calculation with the ever growing amount of data that we keep archiving every day. The consequential impact on science and development would be enormous.
