Jane Birkin Wants Hermès to Remove Her Name from Its Famous Bag

Fashion's 'it' handbag may soon have to change its name.

It's the status symbol many women dream about: the Hermes bag, dubbed the 'Birkin bag' after British actor and singer Jane Birkin — and which can set you back anywhere from $10,000 to $60,000. But now Jane Birkin says she no longer wants her name associated with the luxury purse. This comes after an animal cruelty report released by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which claims crocodiles and alligator farm workers sometimes skin the animals alive.

So, Jane Birkin is asking the luxury brand to remove her name from the Croco Birkin Bag until alligator and crocodile farms institute more humane practices. Your regular $10,000 bag will still be called a Birkin. It's only the $60,000 crocodile purse she is worried about.
