'Dead' woman wakes up screaming at funeral home
After being declared dead by a doctor, a 92-year-old woman woke up screaming in the refrigeration room of a funeral home.
The German woman woke up in a Berlin funeral home after being pronounced dead at a retirement home. The doctor pronounced her dead because did not detect any pulse or breathing. Upon being pronounced dead, she was transported to a mortuary for funeral preparations.
It was at the funeral home that an employee allegedly heard screaming coming from the refrigeration room. The employee was shocked to find that the woman was still alive.
However, Essen prosecutor Birgit Juegens confirmed that after the woman was transported to a local hospital, she was once again pronounced dead two days later.
Juegens confirmed that the woman's death after the alarming incident was due to heart disease and not the overwhelming mistake. Despite these facts, the doctor is still facing disciplinary action and a criminal charge.
The 54-year-old doctor was reportedly charged with negligent body harm by the Essen Prosecutor's Office.
