It was at the funeral home that an employee allegedly heard screaming coming from the refrigeration room. The employee was shocked to find that the woman was still alive.
However, Essen prosecutor Birgit Juegens confirmed that after the woman was transported to a local hospital, she was once again pronounced dead two days later.
Juegens confirmed that the woman's death after the alarming incident was due to heart disease and not the overwhelming mistake. Despite these facts, the doctor is still facing disciplinary action and a criminal charge.
The 54-year-old doctor was reportedly charged with negligent body harm by the Essen Prosecutor's Office.
