STAPLETON, Colo. — An American hero and his family were honored Saturday with the keys to a brand new custom-built home.

"It's kind of like seeing your first born son or your wife on your wedding day."

U.S. Army Sgt. Marco Dominguez is decorated with two purple hearts and several other achievement medals.

"I wouldn't say that I'm more deserving," Marco said. "I would say that I accept it for all the other people that didn't get it that are deserving."

During his second deployment to Iraq, he sustained blast and burn injuries in an explosive attack and currently suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

"There's a lot of people that say they support the troops, but to do more than that – to take us in like that, it's amazing."

Sargent Dominguez and his very deserving family specifically picked Denver as the place to be for a much-needed fresh start.

"We needed to start out somewhere where there wasn't a lot of bad memories," his wife Tammi said. "Everything about this place, we knew this is where we needed to be."

At a special ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, they received a warm "Colorado-welcome" to their brand new half a million dollar home in North Stapleton.

"As a veteran myself, not enough is given to the people that make that type of sacrifice," Wonderland Homes VP of Sales & Marketing, Michael Hart said.

Hopefully this incredible gift of a new home can be a start.

"Things have been tough," Marco said. "I keep hugging my family and my wife and just telling them that I love them because this is for them and for the rest of our lives this part is taken care of."

All of this was made possible by national non-profit Operation Finally Home and local builder Wonderland Homes.
