Teen dies after being pulled from Lake Michigan

CHICAGO, Il. (WGN) -– A 17-year-old boy is dead after he was pulled from Lake Michigan on Friday evening.

The boy's family identified him as Eddie Horns.

The Chicago Fire Department says just before 8 p.m. three dive teams were dispatched to the lake at 31st Street Beach after reports of a swimmer in distress.

When crews pulled the boy from the water, he was unresponsive. He was taken in critical condition to Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

CFD says visibility in the water there was difficult.

Lifeguards were already off-duty.

Two joggers had jumped in to try to find the boy before emergency crews arrived.
