5 Vacation Tips for Workaholics

If you don't remember when your last vacation was, that probably means it's been TOO LONG. If this is the case and you discover that it's your job that's keeping you at home, maybe that is an even bigger reason to book a holiday.

We're sure you're extremely valuable to your co-workers, but the truth of the matter is -- the office will survive without you for a few days. Working hard at your job and giving your all is one thing, but making work your entire life and burning out is another. Sometimes, no matter how much you want to deny it -- it's time to take a vacation and ultimately, it's necessary.

Here are a few tips for the ultimate vacay for those of us that just can't seem to turn off work-mode and enter relaxation-mode.

1) Go far, FAR away

Traveling far away to a different time zone will allow you to completely shut off from work and be less available than ever.

2) Book ahead

A true workaholic will make any excuse not to go on vacation, but booking in advance will allow for no wiggle room when the time finally comes.

3) Write out a great out-of-office message

Explain who is filling in your responsibilities for you and how they can be reached if necessary. This way, you can fully and completely enjoy your time away from the office in peace and quiet.

4) Work a little (but secretly)

We all know a real workaholic can't just stop cold turkey, right? If perhaps you want to get just a little work done on your holiday, go ahead -- but do it ever so often, and quietly to yourself so your family, spouse or friends doesn't feel ignored.

5) Realize that the world will not end because you're on vacation

As we've stated before, there might be a reshuffle at the office, but at the end of the day, they will be okay. Everyone needs a day or two (or a week) to themselves, and that's no different for you!
