Alex Rodriguez has forgotten how to slide

By JOHN DORN

Alex Rodriguez is turning 40 years old tomorrow, but by the way he slides, you'd think he was closing in on 60.

Against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, A-Rod was galloping toward the plate when he saw catcher Matt Wieters closing in on a throw to tag him out. On his final day as a 39-year-old, Rodriguez sidestepped Wieters, but then had a decision to make.

He could've:
  1. Stepped on home plate
  2. Slid over home plate
  3. Slid to the side of home plate and touch it with his hand

But after two decades in professional sports, one's body doesn't always react on command. So A-Rod did a combination of all three.

Happy almost birthday!
