5 Reasons Mosquitoes 'Like' You Over Others

Here are five reasons mosquitoes may be biting you more than others:

1. Mosquitoes bite us to harvest proteins from our blood. According to the Smithsonian Institution, certain blood types are more appealing to the insects. One study found those with type O blood were bitten twice as often as those with type A and those with Type B fell in the middle.

2.The American Mosquito Control Association says carbon dioxide excites mosquitos. Since we each exude different levels of this gas, those who release more are more likely to be pursued.

3.Pregnant women release more carbon dioxide than others, so they tend to be bitten more frequently.

4.Mosquitos are also attracted to body heat, so if you're sweating, they're coming for you!

5.A recent study in the journal PLOS ONE found mosquitoes detect which of us are the most appetizing based on our genetic scent.

So if you're a mosquito magnet, what do you do? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says to use EPA approved repellents, and get rid of any standing water where Mosquitoes flock.
