After a weekend of golf and a lot of rain, the Open Championship is heading into its final round on Monday. It's a rare Monday finish for the British Open, but this weekend as seen more than its fair share of epic moments and rising stars.

Perhaps no name is as hot entering the the final round of the Open as that of Irish amateur Paul Dunne. He's stormed out of seemingly nowhere to dominate the leaderboard and put his name at the top of the list of favorites to win the tournament. Dunne winning the British Open would block American Jordan Spieth from winning his third major of the year and would effectively end the run for a grand slam.

Spieth shot up the leaderboard as well on Sunday afternoon at St. Andrews, finishing his third round 11-under and tied for a share of the lead. Most of the golfers that Spieth was tied with at the time — namely Dunne as well as Jason Day — weren't done yet and continued to build a lead on the Masters champ.

Dunne is an Irish amateur but has ties to America thanks to his spot on the UAB golf team. It's a strange marriage, but Dunne is quickly becoming a name that could rival that of not only Spieth but also of Rory McIlroy, who missed the Open this weekend and continues to have a tough year.

Monday will be the final round of British Open and we will all be watching where Dunne and Spieth end up down the stretch. But they're not the only golfers in contention to win at St. Andrews. Jason Day is actually ahead of Jordan Spieth heading into the final round of the tournament and South African Louis Oosthuizen, Australian Adam Scott, American Dustin Johnson and Irishman Padraig Harrington are not far behind the lead either.
