(HAGAMAN, Ny.) — Officials say a propeller has fallen off a single-engine plane and sliced through the roof of a home in upstate New York.

The owners of the home in the Montgomery County hamlet of Hagaman were out when the accident occurred around 2 p.m. Thursday.

"I came home and there was a big hole in my roof. It's not a pleasant, you know, thing to see," homeowner Maria Cebula told WTEN.

The plane had sustained enough altitude and speed so the pilot could safely glide to a landing at the pilot's nearby private landing strip.

"He made it back to the airport, glided back, give him skill that takes skill," said neighbor Grace Montenaro.

State police say no one was hurt.

Investigators say the Federal Aviation Administration was alerted and will conduct a joint investigation with state police.

Police say the plane was older and encountered engine trouble as it was flying over the rural village 28 miles northwest of Albany.

Officials say the propeller went into the home's attic, damaging the walls.
