(VENICE, Ca.) — Police asked for help Thursday in identifying a suspected burglar in Venice, California who accidentally took a selfie with his victim's phone.

The Los Angeles Police Department released this image of a suspected burglar who accidentally took a selfie in his victims' home.

The burglar entered the the home on Paloma Avenue near Speedway through an unlocked side door at about 7 a.m. on July 11, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two 15-year-old girls and a woman were sleeping in a nearby bedroom as the man went through the residence, the Police Department stated.

At one point, the burglar picked up an iPhone and accidentally activated a video application, which recorded him standing in the victims' living room.

The burglar took the iPhone and fled through the same side door.

Police released the selfie image in hopes of identifying the burglar, who was described as a black man, wearing a dark hat.
