Marvel, 'Star Wars' characters to feature at new Shanghai Disneyland
Walt Disney Co.'s $5.5 billion theme park in Shanghai will feature Marvel and Star Wars attractions, as well as six themed lands including Mickey Avenue and Tomorrowland, the company said.
Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger unveiled a scale model of Shanghai Disneyland, the company's first in mainland China, at a presentation at the Shanghai Expo Center, saying it would "delight and entertain the people of China for generations to come."
Iger said the facility "celebrates and incorporates China's incredibly rich heritage to create a one-of-a-kind destination that will delight and entertain the people of China for generations to come."
The park is located in the Pudong district of China's financial hub.
"We are taking everything we've learned from our six decades of exceeding expectations -; along with our relentless innovation and famous creativity to create a truly magical place that is both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese."

The six themed lands are: Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland, with its Enchanted Storybook Castle, which will be the largest such castle in the world.
A more Chinese theme will be seen in the Garden of the Twelve Friends, where animals of the Chinese zodiac are re-imagined as Disney and Pixar characters.
Disney is building the project in collaboration with the state-owned Shanghai Shendi Group and it is the company's largest foreign investment, aimed at tapping the burgeoning middle-class in the world's second biggest economy.
The Shanghai park is scheduled to open next spring and will also include Jet Packs, a rafting adventure, rides on a Tron-themed Lightcycle and the largest parade in any of its resorts.
Earlier this year, the company delayed the opening of Shangai Disneyland until the first half of 2016 from a scheduled start at the end of 2015 as it expanded plans for the park.
The resort will have two hotels, Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel.
