1. U.S. personnel chief Katherine Archuleta resists calls to step down after it was revealed that the recent federal data breach has affected more than 21 million people. The breach -- which is believed to be the biggest in U.S. history -- compromised private information, including Social Security numbers. Learn more here.

2. Police say 22 women and a child died early Friday in Bangladesh when hundreds stormed the home of a businessman for a charity handout during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. Another 30 were injured and rushed to a hospital in a town north of the capital. Read more here.

3. China has evacuated tens of thousands ahead of Typhoon Chan-hom. The country's national weather service has issued its highest alerts, with wind gusts up to 200 kilometers per hour (125 mph) expected to head toward the southeastern coast by early Saturday. Learn more here.
