The sixth season of "The Walking Dead" will premiere Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. with a special 90-minute episode, AMC announced Friday. The network also released the first trailer for the new season.

Season 6 will be comprised of 16 episodes, with the first eight beginning in October. The second half of the season will premiere in February.

"The Walking Dead" was the highest rated show on television last season, averaging an 7.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 14.2 million total viewers.
