Austin Mahone talks new single 'Dirty Work,' his current favorite song, and best fan moment
Austin Mahone is getting ... dirty.
Due to high demand from fans, the 19-year-old pop sensation dropped his new single "Dirty Work" and radio is already playing it like crazy. "Dirty Work" is slated to be the lead single from his (yet to be titled) debut studio album.
Since his debut in 2012, Mahone has amassed one of the largest followings amongst musicians. Currently, he has 8.6 million followers on Twitter and 7.5 million followers on Instagram. You can check out all of Mahone's videos on VEVO here.
AOL.com sat down with the pop star to chat about his new single "Dirty Work," his current favorite song, and his favorite fan moment so far.
You released "Dirty Work" early. Why did that happen and what was the situation?
We released it early because we were talking about releasing it today but then a couple radio stations were like "Wow this song is really good we just want to play it today and go with it right now." So I was just like okay I guess we're just going to do it! People have really loved it so far so that's good.
What inspired you for this new single?
I did it with Monsters and Strangers and I just wanted a more funky type of vibe. I think we really accomplished that and I'm happy with how it turned out.
Is a music video in the works? What can we expect from the music video for "Dirty Work"?
Yeah! The music video is definitely in the works. I actually shot two videos. The first one is kind of like a more black and white dark type of vibe like in the street. It's a really cool vibe. The second one is of me in an office building with a bunch of other random people are we're just dancing and having a good time. It was pretty fun.
Have you set a release date yet for the videos?
There aren't dates right now that I know of.
What can fans expect from your upcoming album and singles?
They can expect some more vibes like "Dirty Work," you know some cool up-tempo vibes. And I also have some more R&B stuff on there and some urban stuff on there. I also have some ballads. So that's what I've got and I've hopefully got some collaborations in the works as well.
Do you have a favorite fan moment so far?
I accidentally kissed one of my fans at a meet-and-greet one time which was pretty random.
How did that go down?
Well, I was going to give her a hug and she was going to give me a hug and we turned at the same time and like swiped lips.
You obviously have a huge, insanely active fan base. What do you like about your fans? What makes them special?
My fans are special because they just go so hard for me. If there was a contest or something that they need to vote on they're always voting and just going so hard. They're just hilarious.
What was the moment you realized you were famous? I'm sure that was a surreal moment for you. Can you describe what was going on when that happened?
There's definitely been a lot of moments when I've been like "Wow, this is real, this is getting pretty big and serious." Maybe when Taylor Swift invited me to go on tour with her. I was like "Wow."
Who is someone you would really love to collaborate with in the industry?
Probably Chris Brown or Drake. I think that'd be cool.
Is there someone you've collaborated with in the past who you really enjoyed?
Pitbull is very cool. Super nice guy. And then Flo Rida is also cool.
Outside of "Dirty Work," what is your current favorite song?
I really like The Weekend's new song "Can't Feel My Face." Great song. It's a good one.
