In 1989, Duane Schrock Jr. sent his father a note for Father's Day. Unfortunately, his father never received it.

The father and son had somewhat of a strained relationship because Duane Schlock Sr. reportedly did not approve of his son's homosexuality. His son sent him the letter in an effort to mend their relationship. He later died of AIDS in 1995, his father never reading the letter. An excerpt from the note reads:

%shareLinks-quote="Dear Dad, we haven't been in touch for quite a while, I'm doing fine and am very happy in Richmond, I'd like to hear from you. Have a Happy Father's Day, Love Duane." type="quote" author="Duane Schrock Jr." authordesc="" isquoteoftheday=%

Now, 26 years later, Duane Sr. has finally received the letter, which is now covered with stamps due to its long-lasting attempt to find its rightful recipient. He said to WSET news,

"I still kind of tear up when I think about it."

The note, which could have caused more sadness for the grieving father, turned out to be a positive surprise. Duane Sr. said:

"It was sure welcome and it restored faith in the mail service."

The father said that he hopes his son found peace because he would like to see him in heaven one day.
