Twitter rallies behind activist who took down the Confederate flag in South Carolina
After her arrest for taking down the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse, activist Bree Newsome became the center of the attention on social media, with the trending hashtag #FreeBree.
Many Twitter users have supported the woman and contributed to a fundraiser to help cover her court costs and spread her message.
The Indiegogo raised way passed the goal of $20,000 and it keeps growing.
According to RawStory, Newsome, as part of an activist group allied with #BlackLivesMatter and Ferguson Action released the following statement:
"We removed the flag today because we can't wait any longer. We can't continue like this another day. It's time for a new chapter where we are sincere about dismantling white supremacy and building toward true racial justice and equality."
