5 simple ways to de-clutter your closet fast

By Lisa Lozano

If you're looking to de-clutter your home, but don't know where to start, why not tackle your closet with these five super-simple changes that you can make right away?

Tip 1: Start on Monday

De-cluttering expert and author of Unclutter Your Life in One Week, Erin Rooney Doland, suggests starting a decluttering regimen on a Monday so that you will have the motivation to actually do it.

Tip 2: Cluster Items

Organize your hanging clothes based on the type of event you'd wear them to, for example, "Formal," "Work" and "Casual." Use closet dividers to mark each category.

Tip 3: Use the Right Hangers

Use flocked hangers that will keep your clothes from falling to the closet floor and won't warp your clothes.

Tip 4: Use the Space on the Back of Your Door

If you have closet doors that swing open, install a couple items to make your life easier. First, add some hooks so that you can hang clothes that you've already worn but might not need to wash quiet yet. Then, add a magnetic strip that you can use to hang small canisters of clothing repair items (like safety pins, a sewing kit, etc.)

Tip 5: Buy Matching Socks

Want a surefire way to never have to worry about missing socks again? Buy all the same socks! That way you don't even need to pair them up in your drawer, just pull out two and get on with your day!

Well, what are you waiting for! Make these simple tweaks and then build off your success with more projects, like Peter Walsh's 31 Days to Get Organized challenge!
