For those of you in need of a refresher, Dudley Dursley is Harry Potter's plump, spoiled, and all around unfortunate cousin whose parents, Vernon and Petunia, take Harry into their home upon his parents' death.

In the Pottermore unveiling, Rowling offered insight into the Dursleys' stories. She told us the origin of their names and details about their relationship with James and Lily, Harry's late parents. When Petunia and Vernon got engaged, Petunia was worried about what Vernon would think of her sister, a Hogwarts witch at the time.

Upon the two couples' first interaction, Vernon attempted to patronize James for being a wizard. Of course, his efforts failed when James turned the jokes back on Vernon. The Dursleys eventually stormed out of the restaurant.

Rowling also wrote about Petunia's wedding drama, stating that "Petunia did not want Lily as a bridesmaid, because she was tired of being overshadowed." Talk about sibling rivalry. We can't be too harsh to Petunia, though. It must be tough growing up with a brilliant witch for a sister. However, the jealousy doesn't excuse Petunia and Vernon neglecting to show up to Lily and James' wedding.

The writer offered us a glimmer of insight as to why Vernon hates Harry so much throughout the series. She writes that Vernon's distaste for Harry "stems in part, like Severus Snape's, from Harry's close resemblance to the father they both so disliked."

Furthermore, Rowling revealed that she wanted Petunia to show a nicer side "when she said goodbye to Harry for the last time." However, this change of face did not seem fitting so Rowling had Petunia "behave in a way that is most consistent with her thoughts and feelings throughout the previous seven books."
