Tuesday night's shooting in South Carolina sent shock waves across the United States -- a white, 21-year-old man opened fire at the historic black Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, killing nine people.

Officials are investigating the shooting as a racial hate crime. The shooter, Dylann Roof reportedly taunted his victims with racial slurs before murdering them. This is certainly not the first hate crime in U.S. history.



Many of these hate crimes have prejudice motives behind them, whether it be race, religion, or sexual orientation.
